Personalize Your Style With Patches!
Posted on June 04 2017
It was about this time last year when I first saw a celebrity with a jean jacket covered in appliques and patches on Instagram. I knew right then and there I had to have one just like hers! I spent hours investigating the web for a similar look and had absolutely no luck. Not willing to give up I decided to just create my own and spent even more time searching the internet to purchase patches, waiting for the them to arrive, and then pricking my self about 100 times hand sewing them on. As time went on, I started seeing patches everywhere on just about everything and my fingers rejoiced that I could now rock this awesome style with ease. We all love showing our unique sense of fashion and patches/appliques make each piece they adorn just a little more exceptional; here are our two favorite ways that designers have recently utilized patches and appliques on the runway that you need to try right away!
Classic: Patches + Denim
Have you ever noticed how denim is the most versatile material? We use it for backpacks, jackets, vest, bottoms, hats and so much more. You can easily dress up a cool jean jacket with a dress just as easily as you can style the same one down with a lounging around clothes. So of course when the patch and applique trend first emerged denim was the first fabric to get a fresh makeover. Here at PetitNY, we love how designers like Marc Jacobs and Armani have begun to add unique details like these patches and paint splatters onto their girl’s jean jackets. The chic details now create a fun style for all different types of personalities because who doesn’t love strutting around in an original looking piece. Armani's paint splatter jean vest is perfect for the creative little girls who love arts and crafts. Fendi, Kenzo, Marc Jacobs, Sonia Rykiel and so many other designers have adorned every type of patch one could possibly think of on boys and girls clothing to give lots of options to choose from. Marc Jacobs denim mini skirt has fun movie theater themed patches and appliques scattered around with a chic frayed edge while Sonia Rykiel has adorable lady bug, heart and pencil patches on a pair of denim shorts. Match either bottom with any fancy or casual top depending on the occasion.
For boys, Kenzo has a super cool denim button up with lion patches with the designer’s logo scattered around the front. Roll up the sleeves and this top is perfect for cool summer days. Match it with a bright short like Hugo Boss red Bermuda shorts or Moschino turquoise Bermuda shorts depending on his favorite color. Picking up a stylish pair of loafers from Fendi or Armani will complete this perfect summer outfit. Casual: Patches + lounge
Is there anything more comfortable than your favorite pair of sweat pants with a cool t-shirt when you’re just relaxing at home or out running errands? No one wants to be caught in an unstylish outfit so, this combination makes it super simple for anyone to rock their unique style while feeling comfortable. Similar to the athleasure trend, but with more options like dresses made out of comfortable sweat shirt material. Sweatpants and leggings aside, a trendy possibility for girls include Chloe’s navy blue sweatshirt dress, super comfortable thanks to the lose fit and light material, the front features a fun denim horse shaped appliqué for the animal lover in her. For more preppy girls, Sonia Rykiels white polo dress has super adorable patches of a heart, lips, safety pin and more that is also made from a soft and stretchy cotton jersey. Match either dress with a chic pair of Fendi denim sneakers, sandals, or flats with the designers classic ‘Monster Eyes’ appliques.
